Experience ancient Maui on horseback as you spend the day with native Hawaiians. In ancient Hawaii, in the beautiful valley of Kipahulu (welcome of the birds), lived a people whose very existence was shaped by the magic of a truly unique environment. Kipahulu, Maui is surrounded by colorful birds, nurtured by fertile land and lush rain forest blessed with pristine streams and waterfalls. The native Hawaiians were reverent caretakers of the 'Aina (land). Maui Horseback invites you to take their unique cultural and historical tour of Kipahulu, guided by descendants of the early Polynesian settlers, for a rare glimpse into ancient Maui.
You will see how they live and play, as they practice their culture of our islands. Journey back in time and let Maui Horseback share with you our tie to this 'Aina (land) called Maui. Journey into stunning natural beauty that is only easily accessible by horseback. For a moment, experience and visualize life as it was for the ancients through narrative legends and spiritual chants by the guides of Maui Horseback that have been passed down through many generations. Take home a memory of a lifetime as you witness a breathtaking view of the Palikea (silver clouded ridge), the source of a stunning waterfall, Waimuki (the sound of the bamboo flute), dropping more than 400' deep into the mysterious forest of 'Ohe 'O Ka Po (Bamboo of the night) with Maui Horseback.
The beautiful horses, nurtured and cared for with the Aloha of the Hawaiian people, will gently take you up the backside of the Haleakala Crater past a proliferation of wild guava and the vibrant sounds of the colorful forest birds. After you have completed your journey back in time with Maui horseback, enjoy a refreshing and nurturing dip in the pools of O'heo. Quietly reflect on your journey, then see the ancient fish pools of Haneo or the warrior's battlefield of Kauiki in nearby Hana, before returning to the hustle and bustle of the modern world.
