Hike Maui, Haleakala Crater 4-mile hike, is approximately 7 hours in length. Haleakala is were the local guides of Hike Maui go for inspiration. A great amphitherater of silence and expansiveness. Haleakala is a place of beauty that always evokes awe. The four-mile trip is a good crater sampler. You will hike through three very different environments. If you are looking for grandeur, majesty, and vastness, Haleakala's intense energy will forfill your senses.
Haleakala is intense and ethereal, and it's absolutely silent. The views stretch for more than a hundred miles in all directions. You will enjoy a two-mile hike at 8,000 feet on a lava rock trail lined with rare endemic plant species. Then you are on to another two-mile hike at the 10,000-foot summit where huge cinder cones dominate the desert-like, expansive scenery.
There is also a short loop trail at 7,000 feet through Hosmer Grove, a cloud forest full of unusual native Hawaiian birds. Hike Maui will provide a turkey sandwich (vegetarian or peanut butter & jam upon request) and water for lunch. The Haleakala Crater 4-hour tour is a moderate level hike.

Add to Cart |
| (Retail price: $150.00 per person) |
Adult $129.95
You're on top of the world at 8,000 feet above sea level. Then you begin to descend to the floor of one of the world's most famous volcano (this volcano is considered dormant so there is no threat). Twice as long as the Four-Mile Haleakala hike, so it's for those who really want to hike and really want to experience the magic of this phenomenal place.
For those who want to reach the crater floor and get a good workout, we hike the Switchback Halema`u Trail at the 8,000-foot level and descend 1,600 feet to the crater floor. Most would consider this strenuous. Descend through alpine scrub forest on a lava rock trail. This end of the crater has more endemic Hawaiian plants than the summit. Then you will cross the crater floor past huge slabs of lava and bizarre rock formations. Hike an additional two miles across the floor to Holua Cabin.
After lots of photo opportunities and rest, you will return back up the Switchback Trail. Panoramic views surround you all day long. A turkey sandwich (vegetarian or peanut butter & jam upon request) is provided by Hike Maui for lunch. Snacks and water are also included in the Haleakala Crater 8-mile hike tour. This tour is considered to be moderate to strenuous level hike.
Gear you should bring:
- Hiking attire: Shorts, pants or leggings (however you feel comfortable); T-Shirts (long and/or short-sleeved)
- Swimsuit (optional)
- Hiking boots or comfortable sneakers
